Opportunities like this don’t happen very often. Being able to photograph an outdoor boudoir session instead of in the studio AND for the weather to be as perfect as it was – a great example of the planets and stars aligning to make magic. Sarah is, without a doubt, one of the sweetest and most beautiful souls I’ve ever photographed. (And I secretly died inside when I saw her hair *by Lavish* and fabulous tattoos!)

I was on my way to the Bare Boudoir Retreat and saw this amazing old school auto shop on the road and I immediately knew I had to shoot there. Then a few hours later I met Andraea. You know those times when you meet someone and you feel like you’ve known them forever and you want to give them a huge hug? That was me when I met her. We went out at 6am and got some amazing shots. When shooting an outdoor session, I definitely love the shade, and freaked out a little when the whole place was covered in direct sunlight – but I went for it and am in love with the contrast!!
Andraea’s story is incredible, and is a huge reason I love being a boudoir photographer:
I won’t lie, when Steph said I should do a boudoir session with her I was shocked. I am this girl who is so shy until you get to know me, and hides behind her glasses, they’re my shield. Haha! What girl doesn’t want to “feel pretty.” I am one of those people who pick myself apart. I know, I know, I shouldn’t but it’s a bad habit I am trying to break. I was abused all of my childhood. Physically, mentally, emotionally, and sexually. From the age of 3-14 when I finally stood up for myself. I remind myself that they’re things that happened to me, not who I am! Taking these pictures was almost like a breakthrough for me, a new beginning. This is me now! When I seen the first picture I was shocked that it WAS me! Holy crap! Bombshell! Truly felt amazing & Steph is amazing at what she does, seriously!! I felt so comfortable and relaxed and loved every minute of it! Truly an amazing feeling of excitement!

Every woman who comes into my studio for a boudoir session is GORGEOUS. This woman right here is stunning inside and out – we had a blast shooting and her outfit choices were perfection. And to think she deadlifted a CAR the day before her session? BadASS.

I LOVE photographing sessions that are out of my “norm”! Savannah is stunning in this vintage lace dress and stunning coordinating flowers from The Lovely Ave. Shooting this session in a whimsical and woodsy setting made the whole look come together. It’s definitely not a typical boudoir session, but I love finding beautiful areas like this in the Iowa City area and can’t wait until it’s nice out again to do outdoor boudoir sessions!

I love it when clients invite me into their home to photograph them in their familiar and meaningful surroundings. Cozy in-home sessions are becoming increasingly popular for more of a “lifestyle” feel. Alyssa is a babe and I pinch myself we were able to work together inside and outside – I mean LOOK at the gorgeous outdoor location!! I can’t wait to scope out outdoor boudoir locations in the Iowa City area.

I hosted my first studio boudoir sessions a few weeks ago and it was AMAZING!! I absolutely love how much thought Katharyne put into her wardrobe choices. They coordinated perfectly with her personality and with the beautiful furniture we have in the studio! I love the ability to shoot in my studio rather than a hotel room. I really believe it makes women more comfortable!
